Lake Pedder was a natural wonder! Prior to 1974, Lake Pedder was a small (and almost untouched) inland lake, situated between the South West and Franklin-Gordon National Parks, in south west Tasmania.

Amongst a massive uproar from environmentalists and Tasmanians, in December of 1973 the Tasmanian and federal Australian governments granted the Hydro-Electric Commission to flood the lake, devastating it’s natural habitat and environment.

This will be forever seen as a black mark in Tasmania’s environmental history, along with the Gordon Dam project and many others!

We must find more sustainable means of working! Devastating our environment is not the way forward!
